Mary Lou Trinkwon

Mme. XYZ

The Mme. XYZ project facilitates the crafted objects' inherent material power to "speak", through the practices of clairvoyance, interpretation and engagement. Mme. XYZ crafts a felted "crystal ball", using an image sent to her. As a maker/educator within the craft tradition, I work both toward and away from notions of functionality, materialism,  authority and outcomes. It is these notions, which set the context for and are further explored in the Madame XYZ Project. Inspired by the spiritualist practice of medium ship, the Madame XYZ Project draws upon the inter-relationships and co-curiosities of both the medium and the seeker. It is these inter-relationships that determine the functionality, materialism and outcomes, through dialogue and interaction.
